Front Row Motorsports Irwin Tools Night Race Qualifying Recap
Track: Bristol Motor Speedway, .533-mile oval, Bristol, Tennessee
No. 34 Long John Silver's Ford Team Starting Position: 33
One of the biggest events of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will include all three Front Row Motorsports entries. Travis Kvapil, Tony Raines and David Gilliland all qualified for Saturday night's Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
After topping the leaderboard in Friday's first practice session and being fourth-fastest in happy hour, Gilliland and the Taco Bell team had high hopes for qualifying. But the car loosened up in the late-afternoon qualifying session and Gilliland couldn't run the fast laps he could earlier in the day. He came away with a 34th-place starting position. Teammates Kvapil and Raines will start 33rd and 39th respectively.
Jimmie Johnson earned the pole with a lap time of 15.54 seconds and a speed of 123.475 miles per hour. Carl Edwards will start on the outside pole. Dave Blaney, Joe Nemechek, Kevin LePage, J.J. Yeley, Brian Keselowski and Mike Bliss did not make the race.
Coverage of Saturday's Irwin Tools Night Race begins at 7 p.m. on ABC.
Comments from Long John Silver's Team Driver Travis Kvapil after qualifying:
"There was a lot more grip it seemed like than in practice. Obviously, we're locked into the show, so we spent all of our time in race trim and made one shot at it towards the end of practice. We made some improvement since then, but I was just a little too tight right there. It was OK. We had a decent pick-up. It's not what we wanted, but kind of what we expected."
